Our Cocoon Club - A Toddler Learning Environment Designed for Discovery
The Cocoon Club is our dedicated childcare room for 2 to 3 year olds. It is purpose-designed for this age group, with safe indoor spaces and an outdoor play area only accessible to children in this room.
Kiddie Garden operates from a multi-storey building with separate play areas for each of our four rooms. Your toddler will not share outdoor space with older children. This means they can move, climb, and explore freely in an environment scaled to their size, confidence, and growing abilities.
What Makes Our Toddler Program Different
Our approach to early learning is shaped by the Reggio Emilia and Montessori approaches. This means we see your child as capable, curious and full of ideas. Our educators observe each child’s interests and design experiences that extend their thinking and creativity, and also encourage structured learning opportunities through play.
In the Cocoon Club, this looks like:
- Open-ended sensory play that builds fine motor skills and encourages exploration
- Small group projects where children collaborate, share ideas, and develop social skills
- Creative arts experiences, including painting, collage, and playdough, that support self-expression and creativity
- Music, movement, and dramatic play that strengthen gross motor development, language, and confidence
- Stories, songs, and conversations that build vocabulary, comprehension, and a love of communication
- Outdoor play with age-appropriate play equipment, sandpit, shaded areas, a cubby house, and tables and chairs.
- Matching and sorting activities (such as pairing picture cards with matching food items or sliding numbered sticks into sleeves marked with the same number) that strengthen early numeracy, visual recognition, and problem-solving in a hands-on way
- Emphasis on establishing routines and self help skills

A Typical Day in the Cocoon Club
When you choose Kiddie Garden for your toddler’s childcare needs in Parramatta, you can be confident that your little one is engaged in meaningful activities throughout the day. One of the things families appreciate most is knowing what their child’s day looks like. Here is how a typical day flows for our 2 to 3 year olds.
7:30 to 8:30am: Family Grouping in the Caterpillar Crew room. Our friendly staff greets you and your child, ensuring a smooth transition into care.
8:30 to 9am: Yoga/Acknowledgement of Land
9am to 9:20am: Morning group time. Group activities to start the day, including songs, stories, and discussions.
9:30am: Progressive morning tea
10am to 10:30am: Programmed and/or spontaneous play, either indoors or outside in our spacious outdoor play space with age-appropriate equipment.
10:30am: Toileting and nappy changes.
10:30 to 11am: Music and movement play, encouraging children to learn through dramatic play.
11am to 11:30: Midday group time
11:30 to 12pm: Lunch – Nutritious meals are provided, followed by a supervised rest period.
12pm to 2pm: Sleep and rest time
2pm: Nappy changes and toileting
2pm to 5pm: Guided activities focusing on different developmental areas. This can include creative arts, sensory play, and small group projects.
2:30pm; Progressive afternoon tea
3pm: Optional educational time based on children’s interests and needs
4pm: Nappy changes and toileting
4:15pm: Late afternoon tea
5pm: Children head downstairs to the Caterpillar Crew room for story time and reflection. They wind down with books and discussions about the day’s experiences while awaiting collection by parents or caregivers.
Nutritious Meals & Snacks Provided Daily
All meals and snacks at Kiddie Garden are prepared fresh on-site each day. Our menu is designed to support growing toddlers with balanced, whole-food nutrition.
We accommodate food allergies, intolerances and cultural dietary requirements. If your child has a diagnosed allergy or medical dietary need, our team will work with you to make sure every meal is safe and inclusive.

Is my toddler old enough to start childcare?
Many families find that the toddler stage, between 18 months and 3 years, is a natural time to begin childcare. At this age, children are developing independence, forming connections with peers, and benefiting from structured routines and play-based learning. The quality of the centre matters more than the exact age your child starts.
How do you help toddlers settle into childcare?
Settling in at childcare looks different for every child. Our educators build trust through gentle, consistent routines and a brief, positive goodbye at drop-off. Crying at separation is a healthy sign of a strong attachment, and most toddlers settle within five to ten minutes after their parent leaves. At Kiddie Garden, we can adjust settling plans on an individual basis because we know every child and family by name. We also keep you updated on how long it took your child to settle, and share daily reports with photos of your child throughout the day.
What should I pack for my 2 to 3 year old at Kiddie Garden?
Pack plenty of spare clothes for your toddler, as they like to paint, play with water and shaving foam, and get into other fun but often messy activities throughout the day. Your toddler may also start toilet training during their care. Please also pack a hat, simple bedding for nap times, and nappies.
What types of play do toddlers experience in this age group?
Toddlers in the Cocoon Club age group room move through several types of play as they develop. At this age, children typically engage in parallel play (playing alongside peers), constructive play (building with blocks, stacking, creating) and early symbolic play (imaginative role-playing). These types of play support cognitive development, motor skills, creativity and the social skills needed for later cooperative play.
What is the 3 Day Childcare Guarantee?
The 3 Day Guarantee replaced the activity test for the first 72 hours of care. This means parents can access up to 72 hours per week of subsidised childcare regardless of how many hours they work, study, or volunteer. Kiddie Garden is a CCS-approved centre, so eligible families can access this entitlement when enrolling at our Parramatta childcare centre.
How much does toddler childcare cost in Parramatta?
Our toddler daycare rate is $167 per day before subsidies. Rates are subject to change and increase on the 1st July each year in line with CCS increases.
